You will have ta shot of adventure in the Himalayas that won't leave you breathless. You may have the curiosity, how is it possible? The trek offers the same experience as the classic route. You will see the most stunning landscapes, discover fascinating local culture, and visit the base of Mount Everest. The journey is not stopping here; you will get up close to one of the world's most iconic mountains—Mt Everest — from Kalapatthar.

If you're an experienced adventurer, this trek is just for you. If you're a beginner or have never trekked before, this hike isn't for you. We cannot recommend this trek to you because you need time for the necessary acclimatization to the altitude. This route has it all – picture-postcard views, a chance to explore historic villages and bustling monasteries, and the thrill of being in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

Why Is The 12-Day Everest Base Camp Trek Worth The Hike?

  • Getting to Everest Base Camp (5364m) and making it to the top of Kala Patthar (5545m) is no easy feat - But the views of Everest from up there will leave you speechless.
  • Take time to soak up the magnificence of the Himalayas and get a feel for the famous Khumbu region-you'll be left with an incredible sense of accomplishment.

Short Itinerary: Day by Day Adventure

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1,350 meters)

You arrive at TIA in Kathmandu (1,400 m/4,593 ft). We will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. You will stay overnight at a comfortable 3-star hotel. Overnight at a 3-star hotel.

Day 02: Fly to Lukla (2840 meters) and trek to Phakding 2600 meters)

Here's where it gets real – you take a 35-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840 m/9,318 ft). Due to the air traffic in Kathmandu, no flights operate during the peak months, October to November and March to April. Alternatively, we will arrange transport. You can drive 5- 6 hours to Manthali/Ramechhap (474 m/1,555 ft) and then take a quick 20-minute flight to Lukla. Then you start walking to Phakding (2,610 m/8,563 ft) – about 3 to 4 hours of your first real trekking. You'll sleep in a mountain lodge.

Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters)

The second day, from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,286 ft), is the 1st hardest day of the trek to Everest Base Camp. Your legs start to figure out and take about 5 to 6 hours—another lodge night.

Day 04: Trek to Tengboche (3,860 meters)

The largest monastery is a combination of greenery, alpine meadow, and the serene view of the gigantic mountains. A religious vibe in the mountains – 6 hours. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 05: Trek to Dingboche (4,410 meters)

Get into thin air for a higher and exceptional view of Gompa, Maniwall, and scattered pine trees – 6 hours. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 06: Trek to Lobuche (4,910 meters)

The trek from Pheriche to Lobuche consists the zigzags, steep climbs, glaciers, and moraines. It is the 2nd-hardest day on the EBC trail and takes 6 hours.

Day 07: Trek to Gorak Shep (5100 m), then visit EBC (5,364 m), and then back

Trekking into thin air and forced to rise to cross a tributary glacier. Beaming with pride once you reach the base of mt. Everest. The complete journey takes 8 hours, which is the toughest day of the Everest Base Camp trek. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 08: Climb to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) and then descend to Panboche (3,900 m)

A hike to Kala Patthar is also the most demanding but rewarding. It offers one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region. From here, you can see the up-close view of Everest and deep into the Khumbu icefield. The total journey takes 8 hours.

Day 09: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters)

No need to rush—take your time—7 hours. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 10: Trek to Lukla (2,840 meters)

Last but certainly not least – 7 hours. Overnight at a guesthouse.

Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu

It's not over yet (35 minutes to Kathmandu and 20 minutes to Manthali), and a same-day drive to Kathmandu takes 4 to 5 hours. Overnight at a 3-star hotel.

Day 12: Final Departure:

Congratulations, you made it! Transfer to the Airport for your flight home.

Lukla Flight Info

We need to let you know about the Lukla flight situation — it may affect your plans. During the hectic months (March, April, May, September, October, and November), the Lukla flight departs from Ramechhap/Manthali instead of Kathmandu due to the increased air traffic in Kathmandu. It takes a few hours to drive from Kathmandu, so plan accordingly. Meanwhile, during the low season (January, February, June, July, August, and December), the flight continues to operate from Kathmandu.

Note that the airline ultimately decides how to operate, depending on the number of bookings at that time.

Tip: walking time is only an estimate - weather, fitness, and other factors can cause significant variations.

  • Build leg strength and core stability through strength training.
  • Learn about altitude sickness, so you know how to prevent it.
  • Get your gear ready, and we'll provide you with a packing list as per the season.

Practical Information

  • Permits and Paperwork: You will need an Everest National Park entry permit and a Trek Card issued by the Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality..
  • Best Time to Trek: March to May, or October to late November is best, when the weather is stable and the views are clear and pristine.
  • Accommodation: You will stay in hotels and lodges – they are basic but comfortable. A good place to rest your body after a tiring day of trekking.
  • Food and Water: Although there are food options available along the way, it is essential to pack some snacks and drink plenty of water, especially at high altitudes.

I did the Phoksundo Lake trek with Kumar and it was a superb experience. It is an adventure, so you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, but Kumar always adapts to the unexpected and makes the trip as enjoyable as possible! The landscapes are magnificent, you meet lots of people along the way, and you really push your limits! Kumar is an excellent guide attentive, friendly, and his prices are very fair!

Impressive tent trekking Dolpo 2023

The 18-day Lower and Upper Dolpo tour was individually tailored to our needs by Kumar. Kumar had put together a great team of guide, cook and mule guide. This team fulfilled all of our wishes at all times during the entire tent trek. Narsang, our guide, is very attentive and careful along the entire route. Kumar is very reliable. He looked after us very well in the preparation and execution of our trek and during our stay in Kathmandu right up to the farewell at the airport. A highly recommended local company when it comes to individually planning a trekking tour. The trip was a great experience. Chris and Hajo
